OUR STORY

Two drivers.
One island. Your ride.

Angoon Taxi was born out of necessity and love for our home.

Like many remote Alaska communities, getting around Angoon can be a challenge. The ferry runs a few times a month, the seaplane schedule is seasonally limited and weather dependent, and there are no taxis or ride-shares on the island. When elders need to get to the clinic, when families have big grocery orders arriving on the ferry, or when visitors land at the seaplane base with coolers and gear — someone needs to be there.

In 2026, we decided to be that someone.

Nicole Bowen
Nicole Bowen
Co-Owner & Lead Driver
Born and raised in Angoon, Nicole is a member of the Kootznoowoo Tlingit community. She spent years working at the Angoon Community Association and knows almost every family on the island by name. She handles scheduling, keeps track of the always-changing ferry and seaplane times, and makes sure no one is ever left waiting at the dock.
Favorite part of the job: “Bringing elders home safely with their groceries and hearing their stories.”

Josh Bowen
Co-Owner & Backup Driver / Mechanic
Josh grew up in Juneau and has lived in Angoon for over 14 years. He's been driving these roads for many moons and is very familiar with the area. Also, hes the web guy (its weird to write about myself in the third person). Haha.
Favorite part of the job: “Watching people’s faces when we pull up right on time after a long ferry ride.”

THE PLACE WE CALL HOME

Angoon & Admiralty Island

Angoon (Tlingit: Aangóon, “isthmus town”) is the only permanent community on Admiralty Island in Southeast Alaska’s Tongass National Forest. It sits at the mouth of Kootznahoo Inlet on the west side of the island, about 60 miles southwest of Juneau.

Home to the Kootznoowoo Tlingit people for over a thousand years, Angoon is a quiet, culturally rich village of roughly 350–400 residents. The island itself is famous worldwide for its exceptionally high density of brown bears and one of the largest remaining tracts of old-growth temperate rainforest in the world.
